So far we know Nvidia will have their Kal-El quad-core processor out sometime next year, now we have word Qualcomm will the join the party. In early 2012 we can see the famous Snapdragon processor will be powering our high end devices with a 2.5 GHz quad-core CPU.
Remember when we had 1 GHz CPUs? Yeah, neither do I. Now we have quad-core 2.5Hz CPUs with Adreno graphics, 3D support and LTE.
With this power it’s like having a handheld laptop. Can you imagine how fast these phones will be.
I do have two gripes about this though.
- Battery life- the average android device running a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor last around 8-10 hours. Now imagine a 2.5GHz quad-core CPU, LTE, 3D and likely a bigger and brighter screen. These phones better start packing huge batteries.
- Phone Price- We are starting to see outrageous phone prices I mean $300 on contract for some when that used to be the price of a phone off contact. Imagine this slowly creeping up to tablet prices of $400 or $500.
Now I can’t say for sure that battery life will suck and phone prices will be obnoxious but I have a feeling we’re heading in that direction.
End Rant.
