Grabbed yourself a shiny new Galaxy Nexus only to discover the now infamous ‘volume bug’? Samsung and Google were quick to respond to user feedback and confirmed that the problem existed, that the cause had been found, and that a fix was on its way.
Well, it looks like they are now delivering on that promise with a small 1MB OTA update being pushed out for the latest Nexus handset. The update is small compared to most OTA downloads and there is no change to the software version number after the update is applied, so it would appear that the volume issue is the only part of the OS that is being changed.
Users with un-rooted stock handsets should receive a notification that an update is available, but if you want to check for yourself simply tap Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates and check manually. Don’t panic if there’s no update available yet, it will come eventually so check back later. It’s important that you DO NOT try and apply the OTA update on rooted phones with a custom recovery installed or unpleasant things can happen. Rooted users will need to apply the update.zip via recovery.
