Have you ever wanted an Alvin and The Chipmunks themed tablet for kids? Well, you can now buy one which packs in Android 4.0 and a 7-inch screen.
The tab has some pretty good specifications compared with its current competition (being those vTech and LeapFrog tabelts running an extremely limited Linux-based platform), which for most kids I know will be enough including:
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich (No GApps, the target audience won’t need GMail or YouTube)
- 1Ghz ARM Cortex A8 processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 7 inch - Resistive screen, TFT LCD, 16 million colors
- 800 x 480 screen resolution
- Front Camera
- MicroSD card support
- 4GB internal memory
Applications are available via “AppsLib” which doesn’t look like a good Marketplace at all, but let’s hope it’s kept safe for our children. Included is a free 6 month subscription to internet filtering which I don’t know why you’d let children at the target audience access the internet at all.
What will be nice to some, and annoying to others is the free Alvin and the Chipmunks content, but hopefully that can be disabled at parent’s decision (it can be very annoying!)
However, technically it’s a great tablet spec wise and if Archos release an Engineering bootloader, this could be a great cheap-tablet as the price is $129.99 from ARCHOS directly.
