A small independent studio based in the UK has launched a free plugin for Android games that could disrupt the way that game developers monetize their free-to-play content forever. Are in-game banner ads dead? We spoke to one of the co-founders of GamesChart, Barry White, and he told us ‘In-game banner ads are annoying, gamers don’t like them and neither do the developers really. Mobile game advertising needs to evolve and GamesChart is the next generation of tracking and monetization for Android games’.
Instead of using traditional in-game banner ads to earn money, GamesChart offers developers a free plugin that displays a small semi-transparent icon in the corner of their game. When gamers click this icon, the game pauses and pops a chart that recommends other ‘Featured Games’ gamers might want to play. GamesChart then shares 50% of any revenue generated from clicks on the ‘Featured Games’ chart back to the game developer.
GamesChart has been making waves over the last 12 months with their GamesChart plugin for online games. This free service is already being used by hundreds of game developers, tracks millions of game plays each day and is welcome proof that you don’t need to suffer annoying banner ads to earn money from free-to-play or freemium games.
