This is the first time in Android history that I’m aware of an OEM rolling back a software update however it seems that Samsung in India have done just that with the Android 4.1 update to the Samsung Galaxy SIII.
What’s not 100% sure is whether or not another update was send to downgrade the device (I would think not due to complexity) however an intercepted email blames bugs for the roll back.
“This is in reference to your email received on date 15th of November, 2012 regarding updating of GT-I9300 (Galaxy S III) to Android Jelly Bean v4.1. We would like to inform you that update was released earlier by Samsung India for Galaxy S III but now it rolled back due to some technical reasons, so we request you to kindly co-operate with us till the future release of Android v4.1 (Jelly bean) for mentioned handset. Therefore; we are not in position to give you any official confirmation regarding the same.”
The question now is, which bugs caused the roll back and do they also affect other geo’s? Do you have an SIII that you find buggy? If so let us know which bugs please.
UPDATE: Our twitter follower @razarahil sent us the following tweet:
