NOTE: Amazon’s App Store would not allow me to download this game. Instead, I downloaded the free version from Google Play which is ad-supported. I have confirmed the App Store’s free app of the day is free from any ads. It is, in fact, the full version.
Today’s free app of the day is Gumdrop Bridge, by Fridgecat Software. I wasn’t hoping for much after looking at the icon. Let’s see if the game is equally as bad.
Gumdrop Bridge is another bridge building game. There are two land masses separated by a pit. The goal is to build a span across the pit that will allow the truck to cross. There is at least one gold coin every level the truck must collect to proceed.
Building bridges entails using two types of “toothpick.” The first is the “surface toothpick,” while the second is the “support toothpick.” I began by laying the surface so I knew what I had to support. Getting the bridges close to the coins wasn’t hard. Learning to support them was fairly easy too. I never spent more than a few minutes on a level, however I did not complete this game.
To begin building, tap the build menu then select which tool to use. Tap a circle and drag out to place the piece at the desired angle. When the piece is at the correct angle, release and it sets the toothpick. There is an undo button next to the build menu if a mistake has been made. If the structure is totally worthless, the device’s menu button gives a clear all button.
Collecting the coins and crossing the gap is not a difficult thing to do. Interestingly, I did manage to beat a level with structural failure. All that matters is the truck makes it to the other side and both coins are collected.
The graphics are mediocre. It is certainly not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I do feel the developer could have put more time into them and made them look nicer. The only sounds are the truck’s motor and horn, and they’re adequate enough.
I’m going to let you all know, I’m not good at these games at all. It’s not that I don’t enjoy them or understand them. I get bored very quick doing the same thing in a game repetitively. I did have fun until the point I reached boredom.
This isn’t a bad game by any means. The regular price is $0.99, which seems fair. At least if you are a fan of bridge building games. Pick it up for free at the link below if interested, but this is one I wouldn’t normally get for myself.
