If there is one accessory that I find a must have when I buy it’s a Car Kit. For years I used generic car holders that fit pretty much any device however they seem to break a lot or simply cause problems for volume buttons etc…

I’ve come to learn since getting my Samsung Galaxy Nexus that  there’s no point scrimping when it comes to car kits. Buying the official one is often expensive however depending how often you use the car and how often you use the phone when in the car there simply is no substitute to the official ones.

My daily driver just now is the HTC One and my car is a nice family vehicle, the Citroen C3 Picasso (which has a really steep window gradient) so how would the official car kit for the handset measure up to generic one I had been using until this one arrived?

Design

Design

The HTC Car Kit is designed perfectly, the only downside to the design is that it doesn’t allow for a case to be used when docked. The tilt mechanism of the holder itself allows you to use the dock even on steep gradient windows with ease and also remove it (see video below).

Aesthetics

Aesthetics

Looks wise the HTC Car Kit is nothing special, it looks exactly how you would expect a car kit to look and doesn’t feature anything fancy.

Materials and Build Quality

Materials and Build Quality

Materials: Polycarbonate + Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS).

Build Quality: There simply isn’t a part of this kit that HTC have scrimped money on. The materials used scream premium at touch and you can tell that it’s going to take a lot of wear and tear before this product becomes unusable.

Fitting & Removing

Fitting & Removing

There are two ways to fit this device, either by using the suction on the back of the holder for the window mount or using a sticky disc (included) to use the dock as a dash mount. As for removing, well if you use the window mount it’s no problem however, like all dash mounts, it does leave a sticky mark that takes a while to remove.

Conclusion

Conclusion

When it comes to car kit’s there are none better for the HTC One than the official one. When docked you are instantly taken to the car mode which changes the layout of the screen to show the most likely apps for you when driving such as navigation and music.

One of the best parts of this dock is how easy it is to get the HTC One in and out of the dock on a steep gradient window.

I have tried the Brodit version of this dock and to be 100% honest it doesn’t even come close to being as good as this.
