HTC Zoe is now live on the Play Store. The app is only available to select devices running 4.4. These seem to be only high end devices. It should be noted that the app is not natively supported by the Nexus 7 tablets or the Sony Xperia Z2 Tab that I have on hand via the Play Store.
HTC Zoe is more than just a photo/video sharing app. It allows for creating and sharing highlight videos from any assorted device. Further, one of the coolest parts of the app is collaboration.
Two or more people can collaborate on a zoe. This means if several people are attending the same event, they can add stills or short videos into a preshared zoe. This should make for some amazing videos from many different parties.
Further, it seems HTC aspires the Zoe app to be a social network of it’s own. You have a list of those you are following and who is following you. People can reshare, comment and favorite your videos. Usually another social network would make me run for the hills, but in this case I’m excited to see a community of people who want to post fun highlights of events with their friends and family either privately or publicly. I think this is a sensational idea and kudos to HTC for breaking this out of their ecosystem and allowing everyone to participate!
If you are running a 4.4 device that is considered high end or better the app may not be available to you via the Google Play Store. Fear not! We have a link where you can download the apk. It can be found here. Please inform us if you are successful in loading the APK onto your device or if it fails to work just the same. We may compile a live list of what is supported and what is not.
Supported Devices so far:
HTC M8
One Plus One
Motorola Droid Maxx (Thanks Bobby Yacuzzo!)
