Modular smartphones could quite possibly be the way of the future. Imagine having the ability to upgrade your processor in your phone when a new one came out without having to buy a brand new phone. Just take out the processor and pop in the new one it all seems so simple, so convenient, and so futuristic. This is the goal of Project Ara by Google but it seems they aren’t the only ones. Vsenn is a new company founded by a former Nokia X Android Program Manager, and their mission is:
How do they compare to Project Ara? We can’t be sure yet since both companies are still just concepts and ideas but Vsenn has let out a little bit of information. They have four main goals:
- Modular Hardware including RAM/processor, camera, and battery.
- Guaranteed Updates, their device will run pure vanilla Android and will be updated for 4 years
- Maximum security which will be achieved by triple layer encryption, free access to a VPN, and free secure cloud server.
- Customizable looks achieved through replaceable back covers that can completely change the look and feel of the device.
A tweet from their official twitter page displayed a little bit of information about their phone, it seems like it will have quite the impressive screen.
There you have it, Project Ara’s first competitor and they have some credibility behind themselves with the founded being a former Nokia X Android program manager but for now it’s just a waiting game.
